Welcome to Mid-Continent!

NEWS BULLETIN: As of August 23 and until further notice, train operations have been suspended due to mechanical failure of our only operable locomotive. Please call the office at 1-800-930-1385 to confirm re-opening dates or check back to this page.

We are still working on flood repairs. To help in our recovery efforts, we have established a Flood Relief Fund. If you wish to donate, you may visit our on-line donation form or print a paper form from our Gift page. Subscribe to our e-mail list below for automated updates.

NEW SOUNDS: Several new recordings of #1385 and #2 have been added to our audio archives. Check them out here.

FISH CAR UPDATE: WE HAVE DONE IT! The matching fund drive campaign goal of $475,000 was fulfilled Thursday, July 24 with a pledge of $35,000 from Bill Reinicker of Madison. The Badger #2 is the last known existing railroad Fish Car in the United States. The $950,000 restoration, to be completed by Avalon Rail of West Allis, Wisconsin, will restore the car to its as-built configuration with fish holding tanks. To read more about our Fish Car project, you can download a pdf copy of our Railway Gazette here.

RECENT MEDIA COVERAGE: We were featured on the Madison WISC-TV channel 3 10:00 newscast, Tuesday night, July 22. Click here to view. We also appeared in The Wisconsin State Journal, Monday July 14. Reporter George Hesselberg reported on our flood damage and the upcoming deadline for the Fish Car Fund Drive campaign.

TRAINS MAGAZINE awarded Mid-Continent a $10,000 Grant. Click here for more info. The grant money will be applied toward the Fish Car campaign.

CHECK OUT the Rolling Stock website, a fantastic resource for historical information, data, photos and more on wooden railroad cars and builders. This is an independent effort on the part of Hayes Hendricks, but compliments our own mission so well, we felt hosting his pages would be a natural fit. Enjoy by starting here!.

MID-CONTINENT STARS IN A MUSIC VIDEO: Checkout Catfish Stephenson's new music video "Catch A Train," filmed at North Freedom last year.

SHOP UPDATE: The museum's locomotive shop forces are working on the WC&C #1's running gear and boiler. To view a report that appeared in last October's issue of the Railway Gazette, click here (pdf). Shop updates can be seen here.

Check out our BLOG... Museum general manager Don Meyer will update it regularly with the latest happenings at Mid-Continent.
